PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT NEARS COMPLETION OF SAN BLAS THERAPEUTIC COMMUNITY PROJECT

The Public Works Department is nearing completion of reconstruction works on the perimeter wall at the San Blas Therapeutic Community, as part of wider efforts to improve facilities and strengthen safety in community organisations.
The project began after Caritas Malta requested assistance following the deterioration of part of the existing wall, which posed a potential safety risk. Following a technical assessment, structurally weak sections were carefully removed, while sound sections were retained.
The wall is being rebuilt using limestone to preserve the character of the site. Drainage systems are also being incorporated to reduce water pressure behind the wall and improve its long-term stability.
The works were highlighted during a site visit by Minister for Local Government and Public Works Alison Zerafa Civelli, accompanied by Public Works Department Director General Stephen Bonello and Caritas Malta Director Anthony Gatt.
Minister Zerafa Civelli said investment in infrastructure at organisations such as Caritas represents an investment in people, while ensuring that essential services can continue to operate in a safe environment.
Mr Gatt thanked the ministry and the department for their cooperation, saying the intervention would further improve safety for those using the therapeutic community.
The project is now in its final stages, with finishing works, site cleaning and a final inspection to follow.
