Protests Across Europe Take Place In Solidarity With Daphne Caruana Galizia

Yesterday, people across Europe took to the streets to call for justice for Daphne Caruana Galizia, the Maltese journalist who was assassinated nine years ago.

Demonstrations were held in Paris, Berlin, the Netherlands, Brussels and Dublin, with Maltese communities abroad joined by local supporters in honouring her memory and demanding accountability.

Thousands also gathered in Valletta, Malta, to renew calls for justice.

In several cities, protesters assembled outside Maltese embassies, holding signs and banners calling for justice for the journalist.

In The Hague, demonstrators gathered outside the Maltese Embassy for a programme that included five minutes of silence in Daphne’s memory, a poem read by Clare Azzopardi and a speech by Marjoleine Meijer, a Dutch citizen and a family friend.

In Brussels, the protest was joined by members from the European Federation of Journalists, the International Journalists Committee to Protect Journalists, and SRF Balkan Free media Initiative.

The Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation took to social media to thank each person across the continent who took the time to go out and stand for justice.
