Property Dispute Behind Ta' Giorni Police Shooting

A property dispute is believed to have been the motive behind Friday's shooting at a construction site in Ta' Giorni that left two police officers injured, according to police.
Police said the incident unfolded after officers responded to reports of a disturbance at the site. Investigators believe the confrontation stemmed from an ongoing disagreement related to the development, which escalated before shots were fired.
One officer suffered serious injuries to the face and neck, while a second officer sustained minor injuries during the incident. Both were taken to hospital for treatment. Authorities described the shooting as one of the most serious attacks on police officers in Malta in recent years.
The suspected gunman eventually surrendered following negotiations with police and was arrested at the scene. A second man, who had reportedly left the area shortly before the shooting, was also arrested as part of the investigation.
Magisterial inquiries are underway as investigators continue gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses. Police have not released further details regarding the property dispute while investigations remain ongoing.
Authorities are expected to provide additional updates as the investigation progresses.
