Progress On Transforming Sant’Antnin Plant Into Green Space

Work is progressing on the transformation of the former Sant’Antnin waste facility in Marsaskala into a new public green space, with members of the media given a tour of the site to view the first phase of the €37 million project.
Environment Minister Miriam Dalli, who visited the site with WasteServ CEO Richard Bilocca, said the project will deliver on the government’s pledge to return the area to the community.

“We are fulfilling our promise to return this space to the public. This project will not only transform a waste facility but will also create a better and more ecological environment for families, children, and the community to enjoy,” she said.
Bilocca described the works as an important milestone in WasteServ’s vision. “We remain focused on our vision to turn this site into one of Malta’s most attractive, educational, and sustainable green spaces,” he noted.

The first phase, supported by a €4 million investment, includes excavation for a three-storey underground car park with park-and-ride facilities, construction of an artificial lake spanning 4,200m², and the building of three reservoirs to collect rainwater. Work is also underway on the site’s perimeter wall.
The second phase will focus on landscaping, planting mature trees, and completing the artificial lake with a water filtration system.
