Prof Frank Bezzina Secures Strong Backing In University Of Malta Rector Upcoming Election

Professor Frank Bezzina has emerged as the sole candidate in the upcoming election for Rector of the University of Malta after receiving 15 nominations from members of the University Council.

Bezzina, who currently serves as Pro-Rector for International Development and Quality Assurance, has held several senior leadership roles at the university over the years.

These include serving as Dean and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy, as well as Head of the Department of Management.

The academic, whose teaching focuses mainly on Management Science and Evidence-based Management, has also built a strong research profile in organisational sciences, publishing in leading international journals.

Beyond academia, Bezzina has contributed to various public and private sector initiatives. He currently sits as a non-executive director on the board of the Central Bank of Malta and previously chaired WasteServ Malta.

He also served as Acting President of Malta between June 2022 and March 2024.

University Council members will cast their votes during an extraordinary meeting on March 26. To be elected, Bezzina must secure a majority vote, succeeding Professor Alfred J. Vella as the university’s 82nd rector.
