In a social media post, Prime Minister Robert Abela wished his father, President Emeritus George Abela, a happy birthday.
George Abela is a Maltese politician who served as the eighth president of Malta between April 2009 to April 2014.
In 2009, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi announced that the government was proposing George Abela as the next President to succeed Eddie Fenech Adami.
This would have been the first time in Maltese history that the government nominated a President from the Opposition. He was sworn in on April 4th 2009.
