Prime Minister To Open Public Consultation on Manoel Island & white Rocks Projects

Speaking on Sunday morning, Prime Minister Robert Abela said that previous governments had long wished to return major public areas back to the people, but financial limitations had prevented such projects from moving forward. Today, he said, the country is finally in a position to make them happen.
The Prime Minister announced that an open public consultation will soon launch for both Manoel Island and the White Rocks project. He stated that together, these two regenerated spaces will form the biggest project ever given back to the people
This consultation will include everyone, from NGOs, local councils and all relevant stakeholders to the main stakeholder: the people themselves. Abela also emphasised that children will be part of the process, ensuring the future generation has a voice in shaping Malta’s public spaces.
Speaking on Sunday morning, Abela said that previous administrations had long aimed to restore extensive public areas for community use, but financial constraints had prevented such ambitions from becoming reality. Today, he noted, Malta is finally in a position to make these long-awaited projects happen.
The consultation will involve all relevant parties, including NGOs, local councils, and various community groups. However, Abela stressed that the most important stakeholders are the people themselves. Children will also be included in the process to ensure that the next generation has a genuine voice in shaping Malta’s future public spaces.
Discussing the White Rocks project, the Prime Minister said the government would be listening to everyone’s vision, adding, “Se jsir l-isbaħ park nazzjonali li se jkollna f’pajjiżna,” meaning “It will become the most beautiful national park our country will have.”
