Prime Minister Robert Abela Praises Neil Agius

Endurance swimmer Neil Agius has successfully completed the extraordinary Gozo 7 Challenge, swimming around the island of Gozo for seven consecutive days. Each day, he covered roughly a marathon distance of 42 kilometres, spending up to 15 hours in the water.
The challenge, designed to test the limits of human endurance, explored both physical and mental resilience. A scientific team monitored Neil daily, tracking his recovery and capacity to push through extreme strain. Neil, who previously completed a record-breaking 140-kilometre nonstop swim around Malta, Gozo, and Comino, described the Gozo 7 as an exercise in pushing limits and learning how to stay resilient.
Prime Minister Robert Abela expressed admiration for Neil’s achievement, saying, “Swimming for around 15 hours every day for seven consecutive days, Neil has shown us that mentality is truly everything. Resilience helps us overcome every challenge, and it is vital to surround ourselves with people who believe in us and give encouragement and support. What Neil did was not just for him, but for all of us, reminding us that even when we feel demotivated or tired, we are capable of being resilient and strong in the face of any obstacle. This life lesson coming from a fellow Maltese is even more meaningful. Immensely proud of you, Neil.”
