Prime Minister Robert Abela, together with the Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation, Clifton Grima, inaugurated the newly renovated Adrian Borg Primary School in Birkirkara.

The school is dedicated to the memory of Adrian Borg, a student who tragically lost his life in a school accident in 2003 after a goal post at the school fell on his head. During the visit, the Prime Minister met with the late Adrian’s parents in solidarity with their son’s memory.

The school has been completely transformed from an old structure into a modern, sustainable building that provides an inviting environment for both children and educators.

Through an investment of over €2 million under the EDU Infrastructure Programme, extensive works were carried out to modernise the school’s facilities, ensuring that students and staff enjoy attractive, safe and accessible spaces equipped with the latest technology.

The upgraded facilities include new classrooms, a multi-purpose hall, and enhanced recreational and sports areas.

Energy-efficient systems and a new lift were also introduced to ensure accessibility and sustainability. During his visit, the Prime Minister toured several classrooms and met with children participating in lessons and sports activities organised for Sports Day in Schools by SportMalta.

Dr Abela remarked that the project reflects the country’s belief in quality education and opportunity for every child. He emphasised that the government’s investment extends beyond infrastructure to include improved salaries and conditions for educators, as well as digital resources for students.

On his part, Minister Clifton Grima said that ‘by providing modern, safe and inclusive spaces, we are giving our children the best possible start in life and ensuring that our educators have the right environment to continue delivering high-quality teaching.’
