Prime Minister Robert Abela Delivers Address At The United Nations General Assembly

Prime Minister Robert Abela addressed the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
In his speech, Prime Minister Abela reflected on the role of the United Nations against the backdrop of ongoing conflicts around the world. He stressed that every country, regardless of its size, has an important role to play Malta included.
As the United Nations marks its 80th anniversary, the Prime Minister also spoke about the need for reform, particularly within the UN Security Council.
Prime Minister Robert Abela argued, “The decision must not remain confined to these corridors. It must become a truly global conversation involving all Member States as well as civil society. The structure of the Security Council reflects the world of 1945, not that of 2025. Malta supports its expansion and fairer regional representation. But it is not only the composition that must change the Council’s role must be elevated to provide a stronger counterbalance to the dominance of major powers. It should serve as a genuine platform where all nations can make their voices heard. Reform must not only touch political structures but also the way the UN works. Citizens worldwide including in Malta are rightly demanding that governments deliver more with fewer resources, ensuring better value for money.”
