Prime Minister Requests Full Investigation Into Chief Justice Allegations

Prime Minister Robert Abela has formally written to the Standards Commissioner requesting that the statute of limitations be lifted on allegations related to the appointment of a Chief Justice. These allegations were submitted by the NGO Repubblika and by Arnold Cassola, leader of Partit Momentum.
In his letter, the Prime Minister acknowledged that most of the claims are technically time-barred under the law governing the Commissioner’s office, as they refer to incidents that occurred when he was still practising as a lawyer.
Despite this, he stated that he is voluntarily renouncing the statute of limitations to allow a full and unrestricted investigation. “I want the truth of all the facts to be investigated and known by you,” Abela wrote, emphasising his openness and transparency. He added on Facebook that he has nothing to hide, underlining his commitment to full scrutiny.
