The Prime Minister and Leader of the Labour Party, Robert Abela, said that the Labour Government has a clear vision to strengthen the economy, create quality jobs, and continue investing in families, young people, and pensioners.

He said that Malta has attracted strategic investment in the semiconductor, fintech, and financial services sectors due to economic stability and credibility, adding that these investments are creating quality careers for young people, especially in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Robert Abela referred to social and economic measures including investment in education and mental health, increases in stipends, tax exemptions for young people entering work, and stronger support for first-time buyers, the self-employed, and small businesses.

On the self-employed, he said a Labour Government would introduce a refund on social security contributions to improve liquidity for small businesses and workers.

He also spoke about pensions and the transfer of social security contributions between spouses.

Couples where one partner has contributed more than required will be able to transfer contributions so the other spouse can qualify for or improve pension entitlements. He said this addresses long standing injustices affecting families.

The Prime Minister said Government will strengthen work life balance through family focused investment, giving parents more support and more time with their families, with policy centred on social mobility.

Abela said IVF reforms have led to more than one thousand births and will be expanded to cover more genetic conditions. He said this ensures Maltese couples can become parents without going abroad.
