Prime Minister Closes 2026 Congress ‘Malta Aqwa - Ikteb Il-Kapitlu Li Jmiss’

Prime Minister and Labour Party Leader Robert Abela said Malta must begin writing the next chapter of its story with greater ambition and a clear vision.
Speaking at the closing of the 2026 Congress, themed Malta Aqwa, he explained that the next manifesto will be shaped by people’s ideas and aimed at improving quality of life for all generations.
Abela stressed that Government remains committed to reducing taxes for families and businesses while continuing to spread economic growth across the country.
He said investment in the social sector will continue to strengthen so that young people can succeed and become homeowners. He also highlighted the need for greater energy independence to secure a more sustainable future and reduce reliance on external pressures.
He added that the Government’s vision includes better education, more support for entrepreneurs and stronger investment in green and open spaces to improve everyday life.
Abela reiterated that the work carried out so far is only the beginning, and that unity and determination will guide the country forward in the years ahead.
Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg said that in a time of global uncertainty, Malta is offering stability by keeping prices steady and protecting families and businesses. He noted that the country continues to gain recognition for its resilience.
Deputy Leader for Party Affairs Alex Agius Saliba said Malta’s economy has grown significantly in recent years, insisting that the current model continues to deliver results and opportunities for the future.
President of the Labour Party and Chair of the Congress, Alex Sciberras, said that Malta has moved from a stage where it questioned whether it could succeed to one where it must now decide how to build on the success achieved.
