During the summit, he reaffirmed Malta’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Western Balkans countries. He highlighted the importance of unity during shared challenges to bolster the resilience of the continent.
Abela noted the positive progress and recent efforts to bring the region closer to the European Union, stressing the importance of consistent implementation of initiatives that provide tangible benefits to citizens and promote economic growth that supports families.

He also praised ongoing collaboration to strengthen collective resilience against cyber and hybrid threats, which extend beyond national borders and require coordinated European action.
Abela further stressed the need to resolve bilateral disputes and enhance regional reconciliation to build a stable future based on mutual respect and good neighbourly relations. While reaffirming Malta’s full support for EU enlargement, he described it as an essential geopolitical priority founded on democracy, fundamental human rights and the rule of law.
He reiterated Malta’s commitment to supporting these countries’ accession journey and looks forward to continued cooperation and progress in the coming year.
