Prime Minister Robert Abela has announced that a new €276 million agreement will be signed in the coming days to ensure the continued provision of free childcare services.

The new deal represents a €34 million increase over the previous agreement and is aimed at encouraging more parents to enter or remain in the labour market by easing the financial pressures associated with childcare costs.

Abela described free childcare as a central measure in the government’s efforts to support families and improve quality of life.

During the same discussion, the prime minister also announced plans for a holistic reform of family law following a public consultation on the Family Court. He said the reform will address the evolving realities faced by families and will be accompanied by investment in a dedicated building for family related cases.

According to Abela, the reform is intended to make the system more sensitive, accessible and better suited to the needs of families.

Abela said these measures are designed to provide practical support to families by reducing everyday expenses, improving access to childcare services and ensuring that family related legal cases are handled more efficiently and in more appropriate settings.
