Prime Minister Against Raising Age Of Alcohol Consumption

Speaking during an interview with presenter Ronald Vassallo, Prime Minister Robert Abela said that he is against raising the age of alcohol consumption.
He said that there needs to be a strengthening to educational campaigns when it comes to harms caused by alcohol and drugs.
Speaking about his personal opinion, Abela said that, as long as there is no harm done to tertiary persons, the state should not take measures which see persons incarcerated for simple possession.
However, when there are cases of harm or fatalities due to, for example, drunk driving, he is adamant that the penalties should be stricter, as highlighted in recent proposed law reforms.
He continued to highlight the importance of educational campaigns to work at preventing further harm when it comes to the consumption of such substances.
