President of Malta Visits Kordin Correctional Facility to Observe Rehabilitation Programs

The President of Malta, Her Excellency Myriam Spiteri Debono, recently visited the Kordin Correctional Facility, accompanied by the Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Labour, Byron Camilleri, the CEO of the Corrections Services Agency, Christopher Siegersma, the Head of Operations, Colonel Etienne Scicluna, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Joyce Dimech.
During her visit, the President toured various services and facilities aimed at supporting the rehabilitation of residents. The programme allows inmates to learn trades and prepare academically for life beyond the facility. She observed the educational hub, clinic, and chapel, as well as the kitchen and bakery, where residents train while preparing meals for daily use.
In the carpentry workshops, residents were working on furniture destined for apartments being built by Puttinu Cares in London, combining skill development with community contribution.
Her Excellency also met personally with inmates at different stages of their sentences and held a meeting with the leadership of the Corrections Services Agency. The visit was joined by the Secretary of the Presidency, Moira Attard, and the Head of Secretariat at the President’s Office, Reuben Sciberras.
The visit highlighted the importance of rehabilitation, skill development, and reintegration efforts within Malta’s correctional system.
