President Myriam Spiteri Debono To Meet Pope Leo XIV During Visit To Vatican City

The President of Malta, Her Excellency Myriam Spiteri Debono, has departed the country for an official visit to the Vatican City.
During the visit, President Spiteri Debono is scheduled to hold a private audience with Pope Leo XIV. She will also meet with the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
The official engagements will take place on Monday, 2 March, with the President leading a Maltese delegation that includes the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Ian Borg, as well as Malta’s Ambassador to the Holy See, Frank Zammit.
In addition to the formal meetings, the President will visit the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, where Pope Francis is buried. She is also set to tour the Ambulatorio Madre di Misericordia at the Vatican, a facility which provides training opportunities for Maltese medical students.
President Spiteri Debono is expected to return to Malta on 3 March. During her absence, Helena Dalli will serve as Acting President.
