Power Restored In Most Areas As Demand Reaches Record 74MW, Says Enemalta

Enemalta has restored electricity supply in most areas affected by recent power cuts, as the national distribution network continues to experience significant pressure due to record electricity demand during the ongoing heatwave.

According to Enemalta, electricity demand reached an all-time high of 741MW on Tuesday, shortly after a previous record of 713MW was registered on Monday.

The latest figure represents an 11% increase compared with the previous peak demand of 663MW recorded in 2023.

Enemalta said its technical teams remain fully deployed to address faults and restore supply as quickly as possible.

The company confirmed that all areas affected by earlier outages had their power restored by Tuesday morning, although two cable faults later developed in Valletta, with engineers carrying out repairs.

Enemalta Executive Chairperson Inġ. Ryan Fava said the company understands the disruption caused to residents and businesses during the extreme heat and apologised to those affected.

“Technical teams are working throughout the day and night to repair faults, restore supply and provide alternative connections wherever possible,” Inġ. Fava said, according to Enemalta.

He explained that areas where network reinforcement works have already been completed benefited from additional connections, allowing engineers to reroute electricity and restore supply more quickly.

Enemalta said that the recent faults highlight the need for continued investment in strengthening vulnerable parts of the electricity network. Additional staff have also been assigned to the 24/7 Helpline 153 to assist customers and register reports.
