Police Warn Against New Text Message Scam Circulating Malta

The Malta Police Force warned the public of a new text message scam currently circulating Malta and Gozo.

Those affected receive a link asking to “vote” for a friend’s child in an online competition, accompanied by a “suspicious link.”

“This is a scam,” stated the police, “Members of the public are reminded not to click on any suspicious links, even if the message appears to come from someone they know.”

They explained that these links are way for hackers to steal personal information, gain access to accounts, or further spread the scam.

If you receive a message of this kind, it’s important not to click the link, and instead delete the message and report the scam where possible. Never input any personal or banking details unless you’re sure you are on a verified portal.

“Always think before you click,” concluded the Malta Police Force.
