Police Sergeant Injured During Assault in St Julian’s

A police sergeant sustained injuries to his head after being assaulted while carrying out his duties in St Julian’s early this morning.

The incident happened at around 4am on Triq San Ġorġ, when police officers intervened in an argument involving four Maltese individuals, two men and two women.

While officers were attempting to calm the situation, one of the men continued acting aggressively and was arrested. At that point, another Maltese man, who was not involved in the original argument but is believed to have known the person being arrested, allegedly began punching the police sergeant in the head.

The sergeant defended himself, while other officers attempted to stop the assault. A commotion then broke out, during which the other man sustained some injuries and was taken for medical treatment.

The police sergeant was also taken to hospital for treatment for the injuries he sustained.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
