Two Malta Police officers have been recognised for their quick thinking and professionalism after saving the life of a man seriously injured in a traffic accident earlier this year.

Police Constables K. Scicluna (PC2186) and R. Tonna (PC1113), who are stationed at the Road Policing Unit, recently met Mr Maurice Galea for the first time since assisting him following an accident in Sliema on 6 May 2026.

The officers were on patrol when passers-by alerted them to the incident. Upon arriving at the scene, they found Mr Galea trapped between a car and a truck and suffering severe bleeding.

Without hesitation, the officers improvised a tourniquet using a belt, tightening it around his leg to stem the blood loss until medical assistance arrived.

During an emotional meeting at Mater Dei Hospital, Mr Galea thanked the officers, telling them their swift actions had saved his life. The meeting ended on a lighter note, with the trio chatting about the World Cup.
