Police Corps Chaplain Fr Raymond Bonnici has retired from the Malta Police Force after reaching the retirement age of 65, bringing to an end 34 years of dedicated service to the Force.

Fr Ray marked the occasion by concelebrating his final Sunday Mass at Police Headquarters, a tradition he had faithfully maintained throughout his years as Chaplain.

The service was attended by a large number of police officers, reflecting the respect and appreciation he earned during his decades of ministry within the Force.

Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà paid tribute to Fr Bonnici, describing him as a source of hope, guidance and reassurance for countless officers.

He said Fr Ray's spiritual support extended far beyond his formal duties, helping many members of the Force cope with the professional and personal challenges that often accompany police work.

Fr Ray began his journey with the Malta Police Force in 1992 when he was appointed Chaplain of the Special Assignment Group. He later served as Chaplain of the Police Academy before becoming the Force's official Chaplain in 2006.

Over more than three decades, he became a familiar and trusted figure, accompanying generations of police officers and civilian employees through moments of celebration, loss, hardship and personal difficulty. Alongside his pastoral work, he also delivered lectures at the Academy for the Disciplined Forces and at the University of Malta, sharing his knowledge and experience with future generations.

Last year, Fr Ray's commitment was recognised when he received the Police Civilian Officer of the Year Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution.

The Malta Police Force thanked Fr Bonnici for his years of exemplary service, praising not only his dedication and professionalism but also his compassion, humanity and steadfast commitment to supporting officers, their families and the wider community throughout his distinguished career.
