PN Warns Of Energy Supply Uncertainty As Gas Deal Nears Expiry

The Nationalist Party has raised concerns over Malta’s energy security, warning that the country still lacks a clear plan for gas supply once the current agreement expires on 13 August.

During a press conference, Shadow Ministers Mark Anthony Sammut, Rebekah Borg and Ivan Castillo said electricity generation beyond that date depends on a new gas supply deal, which has yet to be confirmed.

They criticised the Government for failing to act earlier, noting that the 10-year agreement was known to be ending and should have been renegotiated well in advance.

The Opposition also questioned statements by Energy Minister Miriam Dalli, who had previously indicated that negotiations were underway.

The Nationalist Party is calling for transparency from Prime Minister Robert Abela and the Government, warning that delays could lead to higher energy costs or potential supply risks during the summer months.
