PN Wants To See More Women At The Centre Of Decision Making, Says Alex Borg

Nationalist Party leader Alex Borg said women should have a stronger role in decision making and public life, as he addressed a political activity organised on International Women’s Day.
Speaking during the event, held as part of the PN’s Qrib Tagħkom series, Borg said he personally understood the importance of women in society, referring to the influence of his mother and his partner Sarah in his life.
The activity, held at the party’s Dar Ċentrali, brought together participants from different sectors of Maltese society for a discussion on issues affecting women. The event took place shortly before a PN fundraising marathon scheduled later in the day.
Borg said Malta cannot speak about a better future without addressing challenges that continue to affect women. He referred to issues such as domestic violence, sexual harassment in the workplace, the gender pay gap and the burden of care responsibilities within families.
He said the PN had put forward proposals aimed at addressing these issues, including stronger measures against domestic violence, workplace policies on sexual harassment and initiatives intended to improve work life balance.
At the start of the activity, Borg also welcomed the return of Maltese citizens from the Middle East and thanked the government for its efforts to ensure their safe return.
The discussion was moderated by Lisa Spiteri and included contributions from several academics, union representatives and members of the PN’s women’s movement. Participants discussed issues including domestic violence, workplace equality, family responsibilities and demographic challenges.
