PN Unveils Plans for New Economic Sectors Focused on Data, AI, New Space and Creative Economy

During a press conference held on the 6th of May 2026, PN Leader Alex Borg presented a series of proposals focused on developing new, high-value economic sectors as part of the party’s electoral programme.
The Nationalist Party outlined plans to invest €12 million during its first legislature in the fields of Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and New Space. According to the party, this investment is expected to generate around €100 million for the Maltese economy.
The proposals also include a major focus on the creative economy, with a €350 million investment earmarked for PORT, a proposed cultural district in Marsa featuring an expo centre. The PN stated that this initiative is projected to generate approximately €110 million annually.
Alex Borg said these initiatives form part of a broader strategy aimed at building a modern, knowledge-based economy. He described the proposals as a shift towards “new economic niches” that would reduce reliance on traditional sectors while increasing national competitiveness.
The party argued that such investments would lead to higher-value job creation, increased national revenue, and reduced financial pressure on families.
The PN said its vision is to position Malta in emerging global industries, particularly in technology-driven fields such as AI and space-related innovation, alongside cultural and creative industries.
