In a statement, the Nationalist Party have responded to Prime Minister Robert Abela’s claim that he will not rule out the possibility of Malta’s potential membership with Donald Trump’s Board of Peace.

They claimed that following the Prime Minister’s statement reportedly caused internal divisions within the Labour Party, resulting in “another U-turn by Robert Abela.”

PN claimed that Alex Sciberras, the Labour Party’s President, immediately stated that Malta should not participate.

They continued by explaining that Sciberras was followed by several Labour officials, MPs and other exponents, including Edward Zammit Lewis and Nisa Laburisti.

The Opposition stated that when questioned by journalists, Robert Abela said that the format of the peace board is not ideal and that many questions remain unanswered.

The Nationalist Party reiterated that they have always disagreed with Malta joining Trump’s Board of Peace, maintaining that “Malta cannot support a proposal that lacks a clear framework.”

They emphasised that Malta must remain a neutral state that upholds international law.
