The Nationalist Party has unveiled a series of proposals targeting young people as part of its newly launched electoral manifesto ahead of the general election set for 30th May.

Among the headline measures is a proposal for youths entering the workforce to pay no income tax for five years on earnings up to €50,000 annually.

According to the manifesto, the scheme would apply to Maltese and Gozitan youths who have lived in Malta for at least 10 of the last 15 years and start working either as employees or self-employed.

The PN also pledged a 25% increase in student stipends across the board, saying the rise is intended to better reflect the real cost of student life today.

Students studying nursing, healthcare and other strategic sectors facing worker shortages could also receive stipends equivalent to the minimum wage: around €1,000 per month.

The manifesto further proposes a “Youth Pension Kick Start” initiative, where government would deposit €1,000 annually into a private pension account for under-35s over five years.

Housing affordability also featured heavily, with the PN proposing that government covers the 10% deposit required for first-time buyers, paid back interest-free over 40 years.

Another proposal would refund 50% of mortgage interest paid by first-time buyers during the first 10 years of their loan.
