Beyond its proposed ‘Metro Malta’ system, the Nationalist Party has unveiled several other transport and infrastructure promises in its electoral manifesto aimed at reducing traffic and improving quality of life.

One of the biggest proposals is a fully integrated transport system connecting the metro, buses, ferries, park & rides, feeder routes, taxis, and shuttle services into one network. PN also wants to introduce a single mobile app where commuters can plan and pay for all transport services in one place.

The party is also promising:

More dedicated bus lanes

Mobility hubs near schools and work zones

Smaller feeder buses for residential areas

Expanded park & ride systems

New bike lane networks

More pedestrian areas and public spaces

Modern bus shelters in every locality

PN also wants to reduce traffic through hybrid remote working in the public sector, staggered work hours, and night-time delivery systems to ease rush-hour congestion.

The manifesto includes financial incentives for companies that organise group transport for workers, as well as new school transport systems aimed at reducing the number of cars on the roads during peak hours.

On planning and infrastructure, PN says it wants to review all local plans across Malta and Gozo, strengthen protections for ODZ land, and prioritise restoring existing buildings instead of demolition.

The party is also promising more pocket parks, greener public spaces, safer pavements, and improved cycling infrastructure.

PN says the overall aim is to create a transport and planning system that reduces traffic, pollution, and overdevelopment while giving people “their time back.”
