PN Proposes Extending Maternity Leave To 6 Months, Paternity Leave To 4 Weeks

Maternity leave would be extended to six months on full pay, while paternity leave would be increased to four weeks on full pay under proposals announced by Alex Borg during a Mother’s Day event in Mgarr themed “The role of mothers in society”.
He said these measures are intended to give parents more time with their newborn children during the early stages of family life and to strengthen support for working families.
A further proposal includes the introduction of 15 days of paid special leave for parents when children are ill, with costs fully covered by the Government.
Borg described these initiatives as part of a broader effort to reduce pressure on families and improve work life balance. He also announced that self employed workers would be granted improved rights so they are not excluded from family support measures available to employees.
In addition, he pledged to strengthen the right to flexible working arrangements, allowing parents to better manage professional and family responsibilities.
He said the proposals reflect a commitment to placing families at the centre of policy making and aim to provide greater stability and support.
He also referred to IVF assistance for couples facing fertility challenges, stating that support would continue to be offered to those wishing to become parents.
