Alex Borg announced a series of family focused proposals during a Mother’s Day event held under a marquee in Mgarr, themed “The role of mothers in society”.

He said that a new Nationalist Government would introduce 15 days of paid special leave for parents when their children are ill, with the leave fully funded by the Government.

He described this measure as part of a wider effort to support working families and reduce pressure during difficult circumstances.

Among the main proposals, he also confirmed that maternity leave would be extended to six months on full pay, while paternity leave would be increased to four weeks on full pay.

He said these measures are intended to give parents more time with their newborn children during the early stages of family life.

He further announced that self employed workers would be granted improved rights, ensuring they are not excluded from family support measures available to employees. In addition, he pledged to strengthen the right to flexible working arrangements, allowing parents to better balance professional and family responsibilities.

Borg said that these policies reflect the party’s commitment to placing families at the centre of its programme. He added that the overall aim is to provide “breathing space” for parents and ensure that no family is left without support.

He also highlighted IVF support for couples who wish to become parents and reiterated the party’s commitment to assist those facing fertility challenges.
