Partit Nazzjonalista leader Alex Borg announced that a new Nationalist Government would extend the pension scheme after 25 years of service to LESA and Transport Malta workers involved in traffic monitoring and enforcement, describing the measure as recognition of their contribution towards public safety.

Speaking during a political activity in Żabbar alongside PN candidates for the second district, Borg said that a safe country is built through investment, respect and motivated people.

He stressed that disciplined forces and enforcement officers have long been taken for granted despite the sacrifices they make daily to protect the public.

Borg said a Nationalist Government would invest in better pay, improved working conditions and safer, more modern environments for police officers, soldiers and Civil Protection Department members. He also pledged annual updates to service pensions linked to current ranks, together with yearly cost-of-living adjustments for pensioners from the disciplined forces.

The PN leader added that a Nationalist Government would address injustices suffered by members of the disciplined forces, while introducing measures to encourage former officers to return to service.

He also promised investment to modernise the Armed Forces through training, technology and stronger capabilities in cyber security, search and rescue, and crisis response.

Among the proposals announced were the reopening and refurbishment of police stations, reform at Corradino Correctional Facility with a stronger focus on rehabilitation, and further investment in equipment and technology for the Civil Protection Department.

Borg concluded by saying he wants “a safe country” where families feel secure and where greater dignity is given to those who protect society.
