PN Nominate Former Leader Bernard Grech For Deputy Speaker Of Parliament

The Nationalist Party is set to propose former leader Bernard Grech as parliament’s new deputy speaker.
This will take place when parliament convenes on Saturday 20th June, with the Pn set to back the government’s choice of Carmelo Abela for Speaker.
Abela’s nomination was announced earlier this week, with the former minister set to resign his parliamentary seat to take on the role.
He will be succeeding Anġlu Farrugia, who served in the role since 2013.
Meanwhile, Bernard Frech served as party leader between 2020 and June 2025, with Alex Borg taking the lead after his resignation. He was re-elected to parliament during the 2026 general election on the 11th district.
