Mario de Marco will not be contesting with the PN in the upcoming election on 30th May, joining a growing list of MPs stepping away ahead of the 2026 General Election.

A veteran PN politician and lawyer, de Marco served in several key roles over the years, including Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism and later Opposition spokesperson in multiple sectors. Politics also runs deep in his family roots, with his father, Guido de Marco, having served as former President of Malta and one of the Nationalist Party’s most prominent figures.

De Marco is now the ninth Nationalist MP to step away from Alex Borg’s PN. The others are Carm Mifsud Bonnici, Chris Said, David Agius, Ryan Callus, Karol Aquilina, Ivan J. Bartolo, Claudette Buttigieg, and Robert Cutajar.

On the Labour Party’s side, Aaron Farrugia, Michael Farrugia, Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, Chris Agius, Clayton Bartolo, and Roderick Galdes have also announced they will not be contesting the next general election.
