‘A new Nationalist Government will continue to elevate children and young people in sport and further strengthen athletes by appointing a Minister dedicated exclusively to sport.’

Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista Alex Borg made this statement during a visit to the Mediterranean College of Sport in Birkirkara.

He was accompanied by Shadow Minister for Education Justin Schembri, Shadow Minister for Sport and Volunteering David Agius, Nationalist MP Ryan Callus and general election candidate Dione Borg.

During the visit, he toured the facilities and observed how students benefit from an educational model that combines academic learning with sport, aimed at supporting their overall development. He also met students while they were training in various disciplines.

The delegation was welcomed by senior representatives of the institution, including Chairperson Natalie Briffa Farrugia, Chief Executive Officer Pio Vassallo, College CEO Charlò Bonnici, Head of School Mariucca Fenech and Director for Sporting Development and Recruitment George Micallef.

They highlighted the college’s progress since opening, noting that it is now in its second academic year with over 170 students, and aims to grow to 345 next year.

The Mediterranean College of Sport offers modern facilities including a gym, a 7-a-side football pitch, a swimming pool and a recovery area featuring a sauna and hot and cold baths.

Alongside academic studies, students receive training in football, water polo, swimming, artistic swimming, gymnastics, karate, sailing, tennis, padel, basketball and dance.

The institution caters for primary, secondary and post-secondary students, and also provides scholarships for selected students.

Management expressed hope that more young people will benefit from such opportunities in the future.

Borg pledged that a future Nationalist Government would support institutions like this and expand scholarship opportunities so that more children can access both education and sport.

He said every young person should have the chance to develop academically and in the sport they love, helping to build stronger individuals and stronger citizens.
