Partit Nazzjonalista Leader Alex Borg recently visited the Koperattiva Produtturi tal-Ħalib (KPĦ), where discussions focused on the challenges facing the sector and the role it plays in supporting Malta’s food supply.

The visit highlighted the importance of strengthening this key industry and ensuring stability for farmers and livestock breeders who are operating in increasingly demanding conditions.

During the visit, Alex Borg underlined the importance of the cooperative within the national food chain.

He noted that KPĦ plays a central role in supporting milk producers by providing quality feed for animals, which ultimately contributes to the production of food that reaches consumers across the country.

He was welcomed by KPĦ Chief Executive Officer Philip Agius, President Noel Fenech, Director Michael Abela and Chief Financial Control Officer Alex Brincat. They explained how the cooperative supplies feed and grain not only for cattle but also for other livestock, including pigs, rabbits, sheep and horses.

These services are provided to farms in both Malta and Gozo, supporting a wide range of agricultural activity.

The cooperative is also expanding its work beyond feed production. It is placing greater emphasis on animal welfare through the employment of a dedicated veterinarian and is developing systems aimed at addressing livestock health and disease prevention.

As part of the visit, Alex Borg toured the grain plant and office facilities, where he met members of staff. He was accompanied by Shadow Minister for Transport, Agriculture and Fisheries Toni Bezzina and Partit Nazzjonalista candidate George Muscat.
