PN Leader Alex Borg participated in the European People’s Party Summit in Brussels today, marking his first attendance at the event since becoming Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista.

The summit brought together EPP leaders from across Europe to discuss key topics on the agenda of the European Council under the Danish Presidency of the European Union.

Issues included the war in Ukraine and financial support for the country, developments in the Middle East, EU enlargement, the next EU budget for 2028–2034, competitiveness, defence and security, and migration.

Accompanied by PN International Secretary Beppe Galea, Alex Borg was formally welcomed into the EPP family and met several European leaders, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, and heads of government and opposition leaders from various EU member states.

During his visit, Borg held meetings with European Commissioners on matters directly affecting Malta.

Discussions with Commissioner Magnus Brunner focused on migration, the EU Migration and Asylum Strategy, security, organised crime, and human rights, with Borg emphasising the importance of solidarity mechanisms for small and insular states.

A meeting with Commissioner Dubravka Šuica addressed the Mediterranean’s geopolitical situation, Malta’s strategic role, and infrastructure and energy challenges.

Borg also visited Meta’s Brussels offices, discussing social media use in Malta, the simplification of EU digital regulations, and the potential of artificial intelligence to drive growth and innovation while maintaining European competitiveness.
