PN Leader Alex Borg Highlights Party Renewal and Calls for Change

Partit Nazzjonalista (PN) Leader Alex Borg has described the party as “alive and dynamic” just a week after taking up the role, stressing that recent appointments show the PN is attracting fresh talent from beyond its traditional structures.
Speaking to MaltaToday Online Editor Karl Azzopardi during Independence Day events in Valletta, Borg pointed to the appointment of Dr Sabine Agius Cabourdin as the PN’s first Chief Executive, alongside a new Head of Secretariat, Chairperson of the Leadership Delivery Office and a Campaign Manager. He said these moves will strengthen the party’s operations and consolidate the work of the Secretary General, allowing a stronger focus on political strategy.
Borg emphasised that Agius Cabourdin’s appointment reflects the PN’s commitment to empowering women in leadership. He noted that she will not be receiving a salary, contrasting this with the Labour Party, which he criticised for being unwilling to work “out of love for the Maltese and Gozitan people.”
The PN Leader confirmed discussions are underway to appoint a new Shadow Cabinet, pledging to make use of the qualities of every MP. He also referred to the 100,000 people who did not vote in the last election, saying surveys indicate they prefer him over Prime Minister Robert Abela, and reaffirmed his commitment to build a “party of the people and with the people.”
On planning reforms, Borg said the PN will oppose government proposals until consensus is reached and reiterated the party’s commitment to safeguarding ODZ land. He also hailed a recent parliamentary debate on the Fortina report as his first political victory, with an investigation now to be launched by the Police Commissioner.
Borg further underlined the need for a Labour Market Survey to understand reliance on foreign workers and encouraged Maltese youth to pursue careers vital to the economy. Internationally, he called on Malta to recognise the State of Palestine and to insist on global peace and accountability for the killing of innocents.
