In an address, Nationalist Party leader Alex Borg explained why the party chose the slogan ‘Nifs Ġdid’ (A New Breath).

‘We chose this because it reflects what people across Malta and Gozo are telling us’, said Borg. ‘It reflects what you told us when we met you in your home, in your business, and in your workplace.’

The PN Leader said that people told him they want a new breath because they are tired of traffic, the pressure of keeping up with life, a life that has become too expensive and a country run by a broken government.’

‘A strong economy should deliver wages that longer, more time for families with open spaces and parks, more space for communities and support for NGOs, greater certainty for businesses and more hope for young people.’

‘This country does not belong to politicians. This country belongs to you’, said Borg.

The campaign also highlights the need to build on existing progress while addressing ongoing challenges.

It proposes a development model based on quality and value rather than volume alone, including investment in talent and technology, the creation of new economic sectors, reduced bureaucracy for businesses, and less reliance on overtime for workers. It also encourages measures to help young people remain in Malta and Gozo rather than emigrating.

Borg also framed “Nifs Ġdid” as a message of inclusion, inviting people from all political backgrounds, including those who feel disillusioned, to participate in what he described as a renewed national direction.

Further proposals outlining how this “breath of fresh air” will be implemented are expected to be announced later today.
