Partit Nazzjonalista Leader Alex Borg has described the current political moment as a “people’s moment” for Malta, urging citizens to choose a stronger future for themselves and future generations.

Speaking during an interview with NET News journalist Chayenne Riolo at a Qrib Tagħkom event in Mdina, Borg said Malta is at a crucial turning point where voters must decide on a clearer and more ambitious direction for the country.

He criticised the Government for what he described as contradictions on environmental and quality of life issues, arguing that while it is now speaking about open spaces, its track record shows repeated failures in protecting them.

Borg also questioned the possibility of an early election, claiming that uncertainty is creating instability for businesses, workers and families. He said election timing should not be used as a political tool.

The PN Leader insisted that public trust in the Government is weakening, pointing to unfulfilled electoral promises, including commitments on green spaces, economic innovation, and support for farmers and fishermen. He also referred to recent controversies involving Government figures and raised concerns about transparency and accountability.

On policy, Borg outlined PN proposals aimed at helping families, including a €5,000 Child Trust Fund, tax relief measures linked to cost of living increases, and exemptions on overtime earnings. He also highlighted plans to address housing affordability and improve transport through a mass transport project set to begin within 100 days of taking office.

In the energy sector, he stressed the need for greater investment in renewables and lower utility costs, while questioning government management of key agreements.

Borg concluded by saying the PN is ready to govern with a renewed vision for Malta and Gozo.
