PN Candidates Want To Create An Open Space On Top Of St. Venera Tunnels

The Nationalist Party has put forward a proposal to transform the busy Santa Venera tunnel and Regional Road area into a large public green space, effectively covering sections of the road and creating a new urban park for residents.
The idea forms part of the PN’s wider environmental and quality-of-life proposals, which have increasingly focused on reclaiming urban spaces for public use, reducing traffic-related pollution, and expanding green infrastructure in densely built localities.
The concept would involve roofing over parts of the existing tunnel corridor and converting the surface area into landscaped gardens, pedestrian walkways, and recreational zones. If implemented, the project would aim to reconnect divided parts of Santa Venera, which has long been split by one of Malta’s busiest arterial roads.
On two separate videos, PN candidates for the upcoming general election, Darren Carabott and James Aaron Ellul, have argued that the project would help address long-standing concerns by residents over air pollution, noise, and traffic congestion generated by thousands of daily commuters passing through the area.
