PN Calls Out ‘Unacceptable Conditions’ For Resit Exams Due To Excess Heat

The Partit Nazzjonalista has raised concerns over reports that students sitting MATSEC resit examinations have been forced to endure excessive heat due to inadequate air-conditioning facilities.

In recent days, students, examination invigilators and parents have complained about the conditions in which some resit examinations are taking place during the height of summer.

Shadow Minister for Education Jerome Caruana Cilia said that students undertaking examinations that could have a significant impact on their future should be provided with a safe and suitable environment that allows them to concentrate and perform to the best of their abilities.

The party described the situation as unacceptable, arguing that improving the quality of education requires more than policies and announcements. It said that proper investment in school infrastructure is essential to ensure that students and educators have the conditions they deserve.

The PN reiterated its call for the Government to accelerate the installation of air-conditioning systems in schools, while also introducing immediate measures such as improved ventilation during periods of extreme heat.

The party called for an urgent plan to equip schools with adequate cooling and ventilation systems, increased investment in infrastructure and preventive maintenance, measures to protect students during heatwaves, further installation of photovoltaic panels on school rooftops, and additional resources for the education sector.

The PN said that strong educational foundations depend on providing students and educators with dignified learning environments, adding that it would continue engaging with families and educators while proposing solutions to address existing shortcomings in schools.
