PN Calls For Cross-Party Agreement On National Mass Transport System

Speaking during Sunday’s closing session of the Partit Nazzjonalista’s General Council, Opposition Leader Alex Borg outlined proposals aimed at securing long-term national planning and stronger environmental protection.
Borg called for cross-party consensus on the creation of a mass transport system, suggesting a Sunset Clause that would bind both government and opposition to continue projects of national importance, regardless of political changes.
“This country cannot afford to start and stop major projects depending on who is in power,” he said. “A transport agreement between both sides would ensure continuity and deliver real solutions for people stuck in daily traffic.”
He also reiterated the PN’s proposal to make the right to a clean environment a constitutional right. Borg said this reform would “place environmental protection at the heart of our national values,” and argued that cultural traditions and a healthy environment should be treated as “two pillars of a just and vibrant Malta.”
Borg added that politics should “return to being about people, not privilege,” emphasising dialogue and accountability as central to the PN’s renewed approach.
He said the party’s goal was to give citizens “the courage to believe that things can be done differently.”
The PN General Council also approved its annual administrative report and elected 42 members to its Executive Committee, half of whom are new, reflecting what Borg described as “a party ready to rebuild the country’s future.”
