PN Announces Worker’s Day Programme Of Activities

The Partit Nazzjonalista has announced a week of activities to mark Workers’ Day 2026, focusing on employment, workers’ wellbeing and the evolving nature of the labour market.
Details were presented during a press conference addressed by Secretary General Charles Bonello, Shadow Minister for Employment Ivan Castillo, and Solidarjetà Ħaddiema PN President Annabelle Cilia.
Speaking at the event, Bonello said Workers’ Day is an opportunity to recognise the contribution of workers across Malta and Gozo, as well as to reflect on labour related developments over the years.
He also referred to the anniversary of Malta’s European Union membership, noting its impact on employment opportunities and mobility for Maltese workers.
Castillo highlighted ongoing changes in the world of work, including challenges related to stress and motivation.
He said the party has been consulting workers and is proposing measures aimed at improving work life balance. These include proposals related to leave, remote working, the possibility of a four day working week, and tax reductions on certain forms of additional income.
The programme of activities will include meetings, conferences and visits to workplaces across various sectors. An initial event will take place in Gozo, where Alex Borg is expected to meet social partners to discuss employment issues specific to the island.
A separate conference will focus on topics such as skills development, artificial intelligence and the future of work, with contributions from representatives of organisations including UĦM Voice of the Workers and General Workers’ Union.
Further activities throughout the week will involve discussions with workers and visits to different industries, including finance, healthcare, education and manufacturing.
The programme will conclude on 1 May with a mass rally near the Lija Tower, where the party leader is expected to address supporters.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts by the party to engage with workers and outline its perspectives on employment and economic policy.
