PM Urges Chamber Of Commerce To Back Labour Migration Policy Recommendations

Prime Minister Robert Abela has urged the Malta Chamber of Commerce to put forward recommendations aligned with the government's Labour Migration Policy, as it seeks to strengthen the country's economy through higher-value growth rather than a larger workforce.

Addressing the Chamber at the start of the new legislature, Abela said Malta's economic model should continue evolving towards sustainable, quality-driven growth in line with the Vision Malta 2050 strategy.

The Prime Minister said the government is prioritising a more digitalised economy, highlighting Malta's strong economic performance in recent years as evidence that its approach has attracted investment and created jobs despite wider challenges across Europe.

Abela also reiterated the government's commitment to improving the country's infrastructure, pointing to continued investment in Malta's electricity network. He said work to strengthen power generation and distribution, including upgrades to cable systems and distribution centres, will continue at an accelerated pace to build a more resilient electricity grid.
