PM Talks Remote Working, Urgent Leave & More With Youths

Prime Minister Robert Abela addressed young people during the “I’m for Good Politics” event organised with Żgħażagħ Laburisti, outlining measures related to remote working, urgent leave and wider youth focused policies.
Speaking on work life balance, the Prime Minister pointed to existing measures such as increased parental leave and urgent family leave, and referred to ongoing discussions to further widen parental leave provisions.

He also emphasised the role of remote working arrangements, while underlining the need to sustain productivity.
On employment, he said Malta has the lowest unemployment rate in its history, with one in five jobs in the professional sector.
He added that Malta Vision 2050, to be launched in the coming days, is built on extensive consultation and will focus on sustainable growth driven by young people. He also highlighted the 15% increase in stipends introduced this year, expected to benefit around 17,000 post secondary students.
Addressing housing, the Prime Minister noted that Malta’s home ownership rate stands at approximately 82%. Measures to improve affordability include a 10,000 euro grant for first time buyers, schemes for properties in Urban Conservation Areas or those over 20 years old, and an equity sharing scheme.
He also confirmed that the tendering process is underway for a new psychiatric hospital adjacent to Mater Dei Hospital.
Lydia Abela said young people are part of today’s decision making and encouraged them to take part in consultations and share their ideas.

She called for stronger equality measures, particularly for women, and urged more girls to pursue careers in science and technology, while continuing efforts to tackle mental health stigma.
