During the annual meeting of Honorary Consuls representing Malta overseas, Robert Abela delivered a strong message on Malta’s international priorities, emphasising the essential role played by those serving the country abroad.

Addressing the consuls, he thanked them for their continued dedication, describing their contribution as indispensable in advancing Malta’s diplomatic, economic and national interests.

Abela stressed that the results achieved through their work have a direct impact not only on national objectives but also on the quality of life of Maltese citizens.

He noted that while Malta is small in size, it is ambitious in outlook, with a global vision, a rich history and a clear sense of purpose.

The Prime Minister underlined that Malta’s prosperity depends on robust international relationships, credibility as a trusted economic partner and the ability to project the country’s values and strengths beyond its shores.

He added that stable political and economic relations must be grounded in a rules based international order.

He also highlighted the strategic and practical nature of the consuls’ responsibilities, particularly in facilitating trade, attracting investment and opening new business opportunities, pointing to Malta’s strategic position between Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Ian Borg also addressed the meeting, thanking the Honorary Consuls for being on the frontline of Malta’s engagement in their respective regions.
