PM Robert Abela Visits Playcon 2025 And Pledges Ongoing Investment in Gaming Sector

Prime Minister Robert Abela visited Playcon 2025 along with a delegation from the Labour government.
Playcon is the main event centred around sport and game development, a thriving economic niche first launched by the Labour Government in 2019.
Now in its fifth edition, the convention has drawn over 30,000 visitors in just five days, underscoring Malta’s emergence as a strategic hub for the digital economy.
Accompanied by Alex Agius Saliba, Deputy Leader, CEO Leonid McKay, and Catherine Fenech, National Executive Secretary, the Prime Minister met with exhibitors, families, and the next generation of digital innovators.
Abela highlighted how the gaming sector perfectly aligns with the government’s mission to create high-quality, future-proof jobs for Maltese and Gozitan youth, thanks to sustained investment and specialised training.
Alex Agius Saliba pointed to the growing number of University and MCAST students exploring careers in esports and game development; industries already producing homegrown success stories.
Robert Abela emphasised that the Labour Party believed in this sector from the start and will continue investing in education, skills, and innovation to secure Malta’s place at the forefront of the digital economy.
