PM Robert Abela Visits Elderly Care Home Ahead Of Christmas

Prime Minister Robert Abela, accompanied by Malcolm Paul Agius Galea, Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing, visited elderly residents at a private residential home.
Porziuncola Home, operated by Golden Care and where the visit took place, is one of the several facilities where the Government purchases beds to accommodate older persons in need of care.
The Prime Minister met residents, exchanged festive greetings, and presented gifts to all elderly individuals to support their daily needs.
During the visit, Dr Abela highlighted the crucial role played by workers and professionals who provide care and support to elderly residents across the sector.
He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to ensuring that every elderly person living in a residential home, whether public or private, receives the best care possible.
As part of this commitment, new regulatory standards for elderly care homes will be launched for public consultation next year, with the aim of further strengthening service quality, explained Abela.
He also noted that the recently approved Budget includes an €83 million investment for residential care in private homes.
During the visit, the Prime Minister and Parliamentary Secretary spoke with residents and their relatives, sharing stories and memories, including experiences of past Christmases.
In a video shared to his social media, the Prime minister showed some snippets from his meetings accompanied by the caption “Lovely meetings with the elderly and a couple of stories from this Christmas period were not lacking.”
