PM Robert Abela Says International Socialist Parties Should Assure Progress For Everyone

Prime Minister Robert Abela has urged socialist parties worldwide to remain united in promoting shared values and driving progress for all.
Speaking at the opening of the Socialist International Presidium in Malta, ahead of the organisation’s Council meeting, Dr Abela said the gathering’s theme, “Leading Together,” reflects the importance of collective action among socialist, progressive, and left-wing movements.
He noted that hosting these high-level meetings is an honour for Malta, adding that discussions will centre on the common principles that guide socialist parties across the globe.
Abela emphasised that, even as populism and divisive rhetoric gain ground internationally, socialist parties continue to champion social justice and inclusion
He outlined reforms in Malta aimed at strengthening civil liberties, expanding social protections, and encouraging youth political engagement.
These efforts, he noted, have reinforced social cohesion and amplified the voices of vulnerable groups.
The Prime Minister expressed confidence that the meetings will advance democratic values, protect fundamental freedoms, and support policies that improve people’s lives.
The Presidium was attended by Socialist International President and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, General Coordinator Chantal Kambiwa, and Labour Party officials.
In a Facebook post, Prime Minister Abela stated that he is proud Malta is hosting International Socialist Parties from around the world.
